Oceania planned several special events, put on specifically for those on the world cruise. One of those was on May 24, when we were docked in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam.
From the description of this event: “Ha long is famous for nearly 2000 islands in the water and hundreds of small mountains with caves on land next to the sea. At the Vung Duc Cave, indulge in the arrays of candlesticks that will lighten the secret atmosphere with stalactites and stalagmites.”
The four hundred of us on the world cruise were transported by bus to the site of the cave. We were greeted by dragon dancers
We were then escorted to the cave entrance.
Where drums and firecrackers accompanied our walk into the cave.
Once past these, there was a long row of beautiful young women to welcome us.
The cave interior was a huge party space, with quite a natural ceiling.
After drinks in one area, we all found placed at tables for dinner. Before dinner, we were treated to a show, including traditional musicians.
It was a memorable event in a stunning setting. A good time was had by all.
i have never heard of this place. I have always wanted to visit Vietnam (after being drafted in June1968–but failed the physical exam!!!). If i ever visit this cave is a “must” on the itinerary.
